The game was originally slated for a holiday 2020 release-to align with the launch of the Xbox Series X/S-but it was abruptly delayed in August 2020. At this time, neither of those delay estimates is firm. The company's first new game, Halo 4, was released on November 6, 2012, to 'generally positive' reviews. O'Connor described Waypoint as intended to be the prime destination for Halo. And the multiplayer suite's "Forge" mode, meant to allow players to create their own levels and modes, has been delayed until the game's third season of content, which has been estimated to arrive roughly six months after the game's launch.
